I hope everyone is enjoying the new school year so far! With new teachers, friends, and in some cases, new schools – it can also be important to create a new routine, too!
The best way to start a new routine is to write down the things you do each day. Things like what time you eat breakfast, brush your teeth, leave for school, do your homework, go to sports practice, or anything notable from your day. I bet you will start to see a pattern from day to day!

WOW. Its already time get our first-day-of-school outfits, pencils, paper, backpacks, scooters, and bikes ready, because school is right around the corner! As much as I have enjoyed all our activities together over the last few months, I am ready to get back to learning. My tail is already wagging with excitement!

Wow, summer is heating up! Before you go outside to play, swim, or hang out with friends, remember to ask an adult for permission and to check the air quality, too! Knowing the air quality for the day can help you and your family make a safe and smart decision for how long to play outdoors. On Spare The Air days, I avoid running around outside, especially in the afternoon, when air pollution is at its worst. When it is a Spare The Air day, the air can be unhealthy to breathe, so I generally play outdoors in the mornings when it is cooler outside (and there is less air pollution).

This increases the pollution levels in our environment and can make it harder for you to breathe, too. You can all help me in my mission to create positive change in the environment by getting your family and friends involved in fun activities and crafts that are easy to do, and will help make the world a better place.

It’s my favorite time of year again – Spare The Air season! Even though we are all excited for the warmer weather, summer vacation, playing outdoors, hanging out by the pool, and going on adventurous trips, we all must remember that with warmer weather comes higher levels of air pollution. This season, I want to take you all through my daily routine and show you how I keep cool, stay healthy, and most importantly, how I help Spare The Air!

The weather outside may be frightful, but at least I can bundle up inside with my cozy sweaters, fuzzy socks, and hot cocoa in hand! These are just a few of the ways I stay warm during the winter, without using my fireplace. It’s important to remember that the reason we don’t burn wood in our fireplace isn’t just to protect the environment, but our health as well. Wood smoke is bad for our health because it contains many of the same chemicals that are in wildfire smoke. It’s like a mini wildfire in our home that pollutes inside our home and outside in our neighborhoods, which can make us sick with illnesses that make us cough or hurt our throats and lungs.

California Clean Air Day is being celebrated on Wednesday, Oct. 6 this year and you can help do your part to help keep the air you breathe clean and safe by joining in on the celebration this year. Good air quality is important for everyone, especially kids your age, because your lungs are still developing and are highly sensitive to harmful air pollution.

The weather is still warm and the end of summer is near, which means it is almost time to head back to school. My favorite way to get to school is by walking, biking, or riding a scooter (go figure!) – it’s a fun way to get around, and it helps Spare The Air by reducing your trips in the car, too!
